Kepala Balitbangtan saat membuka 2nd ICGRB

The 2nd International Conference on Genetic Resources and Biotechnology, 24-25 Mei 2021, dilaksanakan oleh Balitbangtan BB Biogen (Balai Besar Penelitian Bioteknologi dan Sumberdaya Genetik Pertanian), berkolaborasi dengan Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium. Tema konferensi adalah “Harnessing Technology for Conservation and Sustainable Use Of Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture”. ICGRB dibuka secara resmi oleh Kepala Balitbangtan, Dr. Ir. Fadjry Djufry, M.Si., yang menekankan perlunya peningkatan kualitas, efisiensi, modernisasi, dan penggunaan bahan kegenetikan. Diperlukan teknik inovasi untuk peningkatan tanaman, dan disitulah diperlukan riset dan pengembangan.

Topik 2nd ICGRB terdiri dari (1) Effective management of conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources for food and agriculture, (2) Application of genomics and molecular markers for genetic resource conservation and crop adaptation to climate change, (3) Application of innovative crop improvement techniques for conservation and sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture, (4) Plant cell and tissue culture for conservation and effective utilization of genetic resources, dan (5) The use of microbial genetic resources as biological control agents of agricultural pests and diseases, and for soil bioremediation.

Pembicara utama pada 2nd ICGRB adalah Michael J. Thomson dari Texas A&M University (CRISPR-Cas9 genome editing for crop improvement), Hiroshi Ezura dari University of Tsukuba (Genome edited tomato for human health), Mastur dari ICABIOGRAD (Harnessing plant genetic resources through modern biotechnology for self-sufficient agriculture production in Indonesia), Bambang S. Purwoko dari IPB University (Haploid technology to accelerate breeding program), dan Sunil Archak dari National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources (PGR informatics for enhanced utilization of plant genetic resources).

Pada 2nd ICGRB, sebanyak 75 makalah dipresentasikan secara oral, dan sembilan diantaranya dipresentasikan oleh peneliti Balitkabi, yaitu:
